Scientific Name: Hieracium aurantiacum
Family Name: Asteraceae
Bloom Period: Summer to early Fall
Life Span: Perennial
Height: Up to 20-60 cm tall.
Habitat: Scattered and locally abundant at low to mid elevations. Very conspicuous in disturbed sites and pastures.
Leaf Description: Basal rosette, narrowly elliptic to lance-shaped, without lobes, covered with long, bristly hairs on both surfaces.
Flower and Petal Description: Several composite heads crowded in a flat to round-topped cluster, with red-orange ray flowers and no disk flowers.
Fruit Description: Ribbed achenes, with a pappus of tawny, hair-like bristles.
This flower is non-native to the area.
